Now,everythinghaschanged.It'sManyua'sresponsibility(责任)tocollectthefirewoodandwater,takingcareofherlittlesisterandpreparingallthemeals.Her18-year-oldbrothercannothelpherbecauseheisoutworkingformoneytokeepthesmallfamilyalive.Thesekidsarejustthreeofthe35millionpeopleacrosstheworldwhohavehadtoescapetheirhomesinfearoftheirlives.
AccordingtotheUnitedNationsHighCommissionerforRefugees(UNHCR),morethanathirdofalltherefugeesintheworldareyoungpeoplebetweentheagesof12and24.Morethan17millionarechildrenundertheageof18.ManyliveinUNHCRcamps.Therest,ontheedgesofcities,invillages,orfaroutinthecountryside.
"Theyhavelosteverything.Manychildrenhavebeenseparatedfromtheirparents.Intheirvillages,theymayhavebeenabletogotoschool.Butinthecamps,theyhavetotakecareofyoungersistersandbrothers,orspendtheirtimeonhousework,"saidUNHCRspokespersonJoung-AhGhedini.
