Sleepanddreamshaveinterestedpeopleforcenturies.Scientistsarelearningmoreaboutsleep,buttheystillknowverylittleaboutwhywedream.
Modernresearchcantellussomeimportantthingsaboutdreams.First,wehavemostofourdreamsduringREM(RapidEyeMovement)sleep.Atthistime,thebrainisveryactive.Second,everyonedreams–evenifwecannotrememberdoingsowhenweawaken.Finally,apartofourbrainhelpsustounderstanddailyexperienceswehave.Whileweareasleep,itworksmoreslowly,andsometimesputsourthoughtsandmemoriestogetherinstrangeways.
Althoughscientistsdonotknowforcertainwhywedream,somebelievethatourdreamsareassociatedwiththoughtsandfeelingsthatweexperience（经历）whileweareawake.Manydreamresearchersthinkthatadreamaboutdeath,forexample,isreallyaboutanimportantlifechange.Dreamsabouttelephonesarethoughttobeaboutgivingorreceivinganimportantmessage.Dreamsaboutacarortraveloftenrepresent（表示）feelingsaboutyourownlife.Dreamsaboutteeth–especiallybrokenorlooseonesmayindicate（表明）stress（紧张）andfear.Dreamsinwhichyouareflyingoftenrepresentfreedom（自由）orescape（逃跑）.
