Treasurehunts(寻宝)haveexcitedpeople'simaginationforhundredsofyearsbothinreallifeandinbookssuchasRobertLouisStevenson'sTreasureIsland.KitWilliamsamodernwriterhadtheideaofcombiningtherealexcitementofatreasurehuntwithclues(线索)foundinabookwhenhewroteachildren'sstoryMasqueradein1979.ThebookwasaboutahareandamonthbeforeitcameoutWilliamsburiedagoldhareinaparkinBedfordshire.ThebookcontainedalargenumberofcluestohelpreadersfindtheharebutWilliamsputinalotof"redherrings"orfalsecluestomisleadthem.
KenRobertsthemanwhofoundtheharehadbeenlookingforitfornearlytwoyears.Althoughhehadbeensearchinginthewrongareamostofthetimehefounditbylogic(逻辑)notbyluck.Hissuccesscamefromthefactthathehadgainedanimportantclueatthestart.Hehadrealizedthatthewords:"OneofSixtoEight"underthefirstpictureinthebookconnectedthehareinsomewaytoKatherineofAragonthefirstofHenryVIII'ssixwives.EvenherehoweverWilliamshadsucceededinmisleadinghim.KenknewthatKatherineofAragonhaddiedatKimboltoninCambridgeshirein1536andthoughtthatWilliamshadburiedtheharethere.Hehadbeendiggingthereforoverayearbeforeanewideaoccurredtohim.HefoundoutthatKitWilliamshadspenthischildhoodnearAmpthillinBedfordshireandthoughtthathemusthaveburiedthehareinaplaceheknewwellbuthestillcouldnotseetheconnectionwithKatherineofAragonuntilonedayhecameacrosstwostonecrossesinAmpthillParkandlearntthattheyhadbeenbuiltinherhonorin1773.
Eventhenhissearchhadnotcometoanend.ItwasonlyafterhehadspentseveralnightsdiggingaroundthecrossthathedecidedtowritetoKitWilliamstofindoutifhewaswastinghistimethere.Williamsencouragedhimtocontinue andonFebruary24th1982hefoundthetreasure.Itwasworth£3000inthebeginningbuttheexcitementithadcausedsinceitsburialmadeitmuchmorevaluable.
