Researchersusedmicetofindthewindow,butthinktheprocesswouldbethesameinhumans.Theyusedelectricshockstomakethemicefearacertainsound.Thesoundtriggered(触发)thecreationoftheproteins,calledcalcium-permeable(钙通透性)AMPARS,whichformedforadayortwointhefearcentersofthemice’sbrains.

Theresearchersareworkingonwaystoreopenthewindowbyrecalling(唤醒)thepainfulmemoryandusingdrugstoremovetheprotein.TheypublishedtheirreportonlinelastmonthinScienceExpress.

Theirresearchhasdrawninterestandconcernfromexpertsinmentalhealthcare.

KateFarinholt,amentalhealthexpertwiththeNationalAllianceonMentalIllness,Maryland,US,saidmanypeoplesufferingfromapainfuleventmightbenefitfromerasingamemory.“Erasingamemoryandtheneverythingbadbuiltonthatisanamazingidea,andIcanseeallsortsofpotential,”shesaid.
