Inthecontemporarysociety,education,toagreatextent,decidesone’sentirelife.Asweallknow,therearealltwoapproaches,fromwhicheveryoneofusreceiveeducation,namelyparentingandschooling.Whilethisbecomesasubjectofhotdebate---doesschoolinghavemoreinfluenceonanindividual’swell-beingthanparenting?
Itmakesnosensetosaythatparentingisoflessimportanceincomparisontoschooling.Itmaybetruethatstudentswillnotacquireanyknowledgefrombooksathome.Butcertainlytheywilllearnsomethingsuchascourtesyordistinguishingfromrightandwrong,whichisnotcoveredinschoolmaterials.Infact,childrenbeingintheirimpressionableagetendtochangetheirmindswithsurroundings,andthesignificanceofhomeschoolingtherebyappearstobeconspicuous,forinstance,educatingchildrentokeepawayfromobsceneorpotentiallydamagingprints.
Admittedly,schoolisthepalacewherestudentscanacquirespecializedknowledgeandskills,andtheseknowledgeandskillsservingone’sjobmakehisorhermorecompetitiveintheworkplace.Nevertheless,thetruthisthattherearenumerousilliteratepeoplewhoarestillcapableofmakinggoodlivingwithoutknowinganyexpertise.Theirsurvivalisbynomeansfortunate,butisunderpinnedbytheircourtesy,discriminatingbetweenrightandwrong,etc.---partiallyattributedtoparenting.
Inconclusion,Ibelievethattheimportanceofparentingoutweighsthatofschooling.Therefore,Isuggestthatparentsshouldspendmoretimewiththeirchildreninattemptingtoteachthemthevaluesystemsharedbythewholesociety.
