ThegoodnewsisthatthereisoneplacecalledtheElephantTransitHome (ETH) inUdawalaweNationalPark,themainpurposeofwhichistoprotectandcareforbabyelephantsthatarefoundinjuredorlivingwithouttheirmothersinthewild.AdayattheETHbeginsearlyinthemorningwhenthebabyelephantsaregiventheirfirstfeedingofmilk.Duringthecourseoftheday,eachbabywilldrinkanaverageof13gallonsofmilk.Olderelephantsarefedmostlycoconutleavesaswellasothernativeplants.Thentheelephantsaresetfreetowanderinthepark,eatinggrowinggrassandformingaherd.
