MostAmericansgetwhatmoneytheyhavefromtheirwork;thatistheyearnanincomefromwagesorsalaries.TherichestAmericanshowevergetmostoftheirmoneyfromwhattheyown—theirstocksbondsrealestateandotherformsofpropertyorwealth.AlthoughtherearefewaccuratestatisticstogobywealthinAmericansocietyappearstobeconcentratedinveryfewhands.Morethan20percentofeverythingthatcanbeprivatelyownedisheldbylessthanonepercentoftheadultpopulationandmorethan75percentofallwealthisownedby20percentofAmericanadults.TheplainfactisthatmostAmericanshavenowealthatallasidefromtheirhomesautomobilesandasmallamountofsavings.
