Itisahotissueforalargenumberofpostgraduatestodoadegree.Thenumberofthecandidatestoregisterthemselffortheexaminationshowsayear-by-yearuptrend.Totake2003to2007asanexample,therewereonly0.7millionofthemin2003,andinthefollowingfouryears,thenumberincreasedatapercentageof10anditmultipliedinto1.0millionin2006;yet,upto2007,thesituationhadasuddenleap—apercentageof0.3marksanewupsurge.
Whatdoestheincreasebydegreessuggest?Thereasonisnothingmorethanthefollowing:
Firstofall,boththeeducationsituationandeconomicsituationarebullishinourcountry,whichincreasesthespeedofanappetitethatmanygraduatesfromcollageswanttohaveamoreadvancedenlargementintheirknowledgeandability.Inthemeantime,thecompetitiontotakeupanoccupationismoreseverewiththeeconomicadvance.Intheratraceoftoday'ssituation,onlythefittestsurvivesbetter,therefore,moreandmorecandidatesarestrugglingonthisdifficultpath.
Thisphenomenonismingledhopeandfearinmyopinion.Thehopeisthatitisfavourabletoanotheradvanceofthepopulationqualityofourcountry,whileanovercrowdedgraduateswithmaster’sanddoctor’swillbecertainlydifficultytobetakenuptotheiridealpositionsofemployment.
