Abstract
Inthisworktheeffectsofthemicroporosityandchemicalsurfaceofpolymericadsorbentsonadsorptivepropertiesofphenolwereinvestigated.TexturalparametersoffourkindsofpolymericresinsnamelyAB-8D4006NKA-IIandD16resinwereseparatelymeasuredbyASAP2010.Thesurfacechemistryofthesepolymericresinswasdeterminedbymeansofinversegaschromatography(IGC)anddiffusereflectanceinfraredFouriertransformspectroscopy(DRIFTS).Staticequilibriumadsorptionexperimentswerecarriedouttoobtaintheisothermsofphenolonthepolymericresins.ItwasshownthatNKA-IIandAB-8resinpossessedrelativelyhighBETsurfaceareasandmicroporevolumeswhileD4006andD16resinpossessedcomparativelylowBETsurfaceareasandmicroporevolumes.TheresultsofIGCexperimentsrevealedthatNKA-IIresinhadextraordinaryhighspecificcomponentofthefreeenergyofadsorptionbothforpolaracetoneandbenzeneprobeandthusextraordinarystrongsurfacepolaritycomparedtotheotherpolymericresins.ItwasalsofoundthattheisothermofphenolonNKA-IIwasmuchhigherthanthatontheotherpolymericresinsduetoitsstrongestsurfacepolarityandlargestmicroporevolumeamongfourkindsofresins.Theseexperimentalobservationsindicatedthatadsorptionofphenolonthepolymericresinsdependedgreatlyontheirmicroporosityandsurfacechemistry.Thewell-developedmicroporosityandthestrongsurfacepolaritywouldimprovetheadsorptionofphenolonthepolymericresins.2004ElsevierB.V.Allrightsreserved.
