CharlesBlackmanisfamousforhisbeautifulpaintingofdreams.In1956heheardforthefirsttimeLewisCarroll’sextraordinarytaleofAliceinWonderland—thestoryofaVictoriangirlwhofallsdownarabbitholemeetsalotoffunnycharactersandexperienceallkindsofthings.AtthattimeBlackman’swifewassufferingfromprogressiveblindness.ThestoryofAlicemovingthroughthestrangesituationsoftendisheartenedbyvariouseventswassimilartohiswife’sexperiences.Italsoreflectedsomuchofhisownlife.AllthiscontributedtothecompletionoftheAliceinWonderlandpaintings.
