Discoveredin1899Yinxuisoneoftheoldestandlargestarcheologicalsites(考古遗址)inChinaandisoneofthehistoricalcapitalsofChinaandislistedasaUNESCOWorldHeritageSite.ItliesincentralHenanProvincenearthemoderncityofAnyangandisopentothepublicastheGardenMuseumofYinxu.Itisfamousasthesourceoforaclebonescript(甲骨文)theearliestrecordedformofChinesewriting.Theoraclebonescripthasrecordedalmosteverythingfromdream-explainingtoeventssuchasharvestsbirthofachildtheweatherandthesuccessofmilitarycampaigns.

Over3000tombs2200pitsand200houseshavebeendugoutatYinxu.ThelargenumberofburialaccessoriesfoundthereshowsthehighleveloftheShangcraftsindustry.Thesiteincludesamainpalaceandanancienttomb.Besidesthereareanumberoflargebuildingsatleast53ofwhichhavebeendugout.

YinxuhasseenmanyyearsofresearchfirstresearchedbytheAcademiaSinicainthelate1920stotheearly1930sandmostrecentlybytheChineseAcademyofSocialSciences.
