IncollegeSpringBreak(春假)isusuallyassociatedwiththebeachpartiesandsleeplessnightsbringingaboutrelaxationfreetimeandfriends.StudentswhowishtospendtheirbreakdoingsomethingproductiveandrewardinghowevermaychoosetoparticipateintheAlternativeBreakProgram.Itplacescollegestudentsincommunitiesbothathomeandabroad.
TheProgramallowsstudentstotakepartinvariousprojectsdealingwithissuessuchasliteracy(识字)homelessnessandtheenvironment.Itincludeshelpingkidswiththeirlessonsraisingmoneyforfamiliesinneedandcollectingdataforenvironmentalresearch.
Thehopeisthatbygettingthemselvesinvolvedindifferentenvironmentsstudentswillhavetheopportunitytolearnaboutmembersofcommunitiesandbroadentheirview.Inturntheywillincorporate(融合)theirexperiencesandlessonslearnedintotheirowncommunities.InawordtheProgramaimstoencouragestudentstobeactivecitizensndengagethemselvesinmakingadifferenceinsociety.
