Itisnaturaltoassumethatexercisewouldhaveapositiveeffectonthelengthoflifeformiddle-agedmengivenallofthemedicalliteraturethathasbeenpublishedinthepastshowingapositivecorrelationbetweenexerciseandlongevity.Inthisparticularargument,thewriterputsforthastudypurportingtotrackfivehundredmiddle-agedmenwithdifferentoccupationsindifferentpartsofthecountry.Thesurveywasapparentlyconductedonthebasisofanannualsurveyaskinghowoftenandhowstrenuouslythesemenexercised.Thewriternotonlyconcludesthatthereisaclearlinkbetweenlongevityandexercise,butthatdoctorsshouldnotrecommendmoderateexercise,rathervigorousoutdoorexerciseonadailybasistoalltheirpatients.Thiswriter'sargumentfailstoconvinceinanumberofareasduetoseverallapsesinlogicalthinking.
